Skin Cancer Workshop 2020


A highly interactive one-day workshop on skin cancer for GPs developed and delivered by senior consultant dermatologists at the Skin Health Institute. It is hands-on and interactive. An excellent opportunity to upskill your diagnosis and management skills.

This GP Skin Cancer Workshop is suitable for all GPs and GP registrars or trainees, whatever the level of experience. Developed and taught by experienced specialist dermatologist educators, these workshops are a perfect opportunity to skill up.

There will be practical sessions throughout the day:

  • Non Melanoma Skin Cancer (Interactive Lecture)
  • Melanoma Skin Cancer (Interactive Lecture)
  • Basic dermoscopy, which will cover identifying benign lesions, non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma (Interactive Lecture)
  • Biopsy Techniques - Punch and Shave (hands-on, procedural skills, direct observation)
  • Excisional Biopsy Technique (hands-on, procedural skills, direct observation)
  • Practical Session  (hands-on, procedural skills, direct observation)

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify common benign and malignant skin lesions
  2. Explain the use of dermoscopy to assist in the diagnosis of skin lesions
  3. Explain the principles and practice of managing melanomas and non-melanoma skin cancers
  4. Identify and undertake appropriate biopsy techniques
  5. Explain the principles of sun protection to patients
